Calgary Chapter: CIO Peer Connect

March 19, 2026 (4:30 PM - 6:30 PM) (MDT)

Description

The ransomware attack has passed. Remediation efforts are underway, or complete. Then a request arrives from local law enforcement seeking access to your organization’s IT records.

What happens next?

Join us for light refreshments and an engaging discussion as our Chapter’s Phil Hoetger presents “Anatomy of a Police Cyber Investigation: The Potential Fallout of a Ransomware Attack.”

Phil is the Director of Information and Evidence Management at Calgary Police Services, where he oversees Artificial Intelligence, Information Governance, Records Management, and Evidence Management. Previously serving as Inspector of Technical Investigations, where he led cybercrime investigations, Phil brings extensive insight into the law enforcement side of cyber incidents.

In this session, Phil will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how police conduct cyber investigations following a ransomware attack. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of what organizations can expect when law enforcement becomes involved, and how standards, policies, and governance frameworks intersect with investigative processes. The discussion will also include a high-level overview of the systems and technologies that support digital evidence and information management.

This session offers a valuable perspective for technology leaders seeking to better understand the legal, operational, and governance implications of ransomware incidents.

Appetizers & Beverages will be provided
